Oh Fudge!

As long as I can remember my Grandpa Leavitt has been making fudge during the holidays. Every batch he makes is snatched up almost as quickly as it's made! Only once have I convinced him to make it when it wasn't the holidays and that was for my 19th birthday! I got a package in the dorms at BYU with a huge bag of Mandarin oranges and a roll of fudge! So while they were up here around Christmas we finally got him to give us a lesson on how to make it! My dad was supossed to be the main one getting the lesson but it ended up being me instead! I guess he'll have to get a lesson from me or wait until next Christmas to get one from Grandpa!
One of the best parts of learning how to make fudge was hearing some of Grandpa's stories from his childhood including how he learned to make fudge. During the Great Depression sugar was rationed but when his parents left him alone he would go into the kitchen and make "burned sugar." I guess it's kindof like caramel. Anyways that was what started Grandpa in his candy making and after learning from others and taking a few classes, he's mastered the art of fudge making! Thanks for the fudge lesson and the stories Grandpa!

I got the task of "constantly stirring" until it reached 233 degrees!

You have to pour it all out at once and you can't scrape the pot to get the rest out so Grandpa demonstrated the first time.

You can see the vultures waiting around for samples after the fudge was whipped.

We all were good enough to smile while waiting patiently for the fudge to cool! Grandma on the other hand couldn't wait any longer!

No doubt about it, Logan loves fudge!
